visualising e-mail data!!! (software art)
the actual term "software art" was coined earlier this year at Transmediale, an international conference on media art in Berlin. The budding genre was defined by Transmediale's organizers as
"projects in which self-written, stand-alone programs or script-based applications are not merely a functional tool but an artistic creation. "
Curator Jon Ippolito of the Guggenheim Museum defines it further
by stating that
"software art shouldn't be too functional, but should help viewers see the world in a new way via original code."

It was "art bit exhibition @ ICC(Tokyo,Japan)" that I got interested in a thing called software art first. In this exhibition, these novel art work of software was exhibited to tamper with users actually.
It was impressive that not having shown one completed form like paintings or sculpture ../img/ but also there were many works which images changes with how to use by user.
The rules made by artist, and a user plays or expresses in it.
It was surprised that images is emitted in such a form. ../img/ And I thought that these kinds of expression was harnessing the digital characteristic.
Moreover, many of works exhibited were only the images on monitors generated by computers. ../img/ Although there was no material thing, it was very much surprised that a rich image can be taken out.../img/ I got interested in a thing called software art through such experience.
The reason which began to grope e-mail data for the material of software art is ../img/ having thought that e-mail had spread very much for our communication.
To be used unfamiliar genre called software art widly, it's good for users to use their own e-mail data.
When it is going to express something by software, data and some parameters are surely needed. ../img/ Supposing a user's e-mail data was then made for the material, it was sure that reflects the user itself most. ../img/ Because e-mail include the figure and feeling at that time. Mail data was replaced with other images, ../img/ and since it appeared each user in the new form, work of imagemail was tackled. ../img/
